Ekuthuleni Retreat Centre

Meditation & Daily Life Practice in Nature

Ekuthuleni is a Zulu word that means a clear, warm quality of quietness, of peace.

Set in beautiful nature in the foothills of the french Pyrenees in southern France, we are a small meditation centre run on ecological-living principles.

Ekuthuleni Retreat Centre Nature

Silent Meditation & Active Retreats

We offer a diversity of meditation retreats: silent or walking & chanting retreats, (with daily dhamma teachings) and activity retreats which explore eco-living and bringing meditation into practical life.

Buddhist teachings are our main reference, especially the Forest tradition of Ajahn Chah. Open Dharma, Jaya Ashmore and Deep Rest are also a major influence though we are inspired by many paths. Rooted as we are in these threads, we delight in participation from all faiths and spiritual leanings. Teaching is in English or in French with translation as needed.

All our retreats are inclusive and LGBTQI friendly.

Daily Life Activity Retreats

Outside of scheduled group retreats, you can come and stay for a week or longer and join in the life of the centre. This includes times of meditation and joining in daily chores & activities.

Our next retreats

We like to keep our ways of living simple & sustainable. Ekuthuleni is off grid, we have learned to use little and take care of all our resources such as water, not take it for granted. This care nourishes connection with each other and with nature.

We aspire to Integrating inner meditation and living consciously outwardly. Not easy in this human world though we keep leaning into this reality...

The centre and the resident teachers rely on dana (donations) for their livelihood. Those who come are invited to offer dana as a practice of generosity. This keeps the retreat center accessible to all income levels and promotes a less consumerist approach.
